[BT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Weixd.-gton', Friday. The House of Representatives continued the discussion on the Hutt Road Bill (No. 2) until 1.20 a.m., when it was reported without amendment.

The Land Transfer Acts Compilation Bill was reported from Committee, read a third time, and passed. The Births and Deaths Registration Amendment Bill was reported from Committee with amendments

The House rose at 1.25 a.m.

The House met at ,50 p.m. A petition from the Ancient Order :f Druids, Auckland, against the competition of the National Provident Fund was presented by .Mr. C. J. I'arr.

Sir Joeeph Ward, in reply to Mr. Anstey, 6 aid if particulars of a Case of alleged exploitation in kerosene were supplied to the Customs Department a prosecution would follow. The Department was anxious to prosecute, in cases where offences were committed, for the sake of tha publicity which would be given thereby to the rights of the public as determined by the House. The Sale of Foods and Drugs Amendment Bill was introduced by the Hon. . D. S. McDonald and read a first time. The Births and Deaths Registration Amendment Bill was read a third time and passed. The House then went into Committee of Supply to consider the Education Estimates.

The first item taken was : Head Office £10,189, and the whole of the afternoon was taken up discussing this vote, which was passed at 8.15 p.in votes for elementary education, —912,501. secondary and* higher education. £112.476. were passed without discussion.

At half-past ten the last vote in the education class was passed, and the total vote, £1,390,445, was agreed to. The remaining votes : State forests, £31,937; State coal mines. £262 567; scenery preservation. £11.098: land for settlements. £8610; Public Trustee, £50.542; State fire insurance, £53,891; State advances. £590,770; Government insurance, £72.707: Government accident insurance, £7200; native land settlement, £1780 were passed with comparatively little discussion, and at five minutes to eleven progress was reported. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Lands Transfer Act Compilation Bill was read a second time and referred to tile Statutes Revision Committee. The Wellington City Empowering Act, 1908, Amendment Sill, and Auckland City Market and Empowering Bill were read a second time. Both Bills were reported from Committee without amendment. read a third time, and passed. The Council rose at 3 p.m.
