STRUGGLE IN ARGONNE.
GERMANS UNSUCCESSFUL.
ATTACKS BEATEN OFF.
HEAVY LOSSES SUSTAINED.
(Received September 13. 2 *.m.)
Paris, September 12. The Crown Prince's army made repeated attempts to break the French lines in the Argonne by means of powerful artillery and large numbers of troops, without appreciable result. The Germans sustained greater losses than they inflicted, and the effort was abandoned.
A communique states that great artillery activity continues in Artois, southward of the Somme, and in the environs of Roye. The enemy on the Aisne and Marne Canal made two attempts to surprise the French advanced posts near Sapigneul, but failed completely.
