SUBURBAN RAILWAYS.
COMPLAINT FROM AUCKLAND SPEEDIER SERVICE ACTED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Welt.ixgton-, Friday. Speaking about the Auckland suburban railway sen-ice in the House to-night, Mr.
C. J. Parr claimed to have in his district the slowest suburban railway service in the world. The trains from Auckland to Mount Eden, Mount Albert, and Avondale, travelled in one hour about 10 or 11 miles. A more vigorous suburban railway policy should be followed, and he claimed that if the service "were speeded up the numbers travelling would be doubled and a more rapid spread of settlement in the suburbs would be encouraged.
In reply, the Minister for Railways said that this sujburban line was not in a flourishing condition at present. The Department proposed to duplicate this line, and when this work was completed there would be a much speedier service. The matter was now engaging the attention of the traffic manager at Auckland.
