SUFFERING OF JEWS.
MILLIONS PENNILESS. WAR EFFECTS IN THE EAST. London, September '9. Jewish soldiers who have returned from the front took part in services held in connection with the Jewish New Year. The Chief Rabbi, preaching at the Aldgate Synagogue, said the community had never been confronted-with such a mass of calculated inhumanity and suffering as was now existing in the ranks of Israel in the eastern war zone. Thousands had been killed, and millions had been reduced to penury. The Rabbi said he was confident that in the new martyrdom of Israel they would acquit themselves as men.
