COMFORTS FOR MAORIS. 11l .■■-". THE WAISTCOAT FUND. A meeting of the Auckland Women's Patriotic League was held yesterday. The Mayoress, Mrs. J. H. Gnneon, presided. A presentation of a gold wristlet watch, with suitable inscription, was made by the Mayoress to Mrs. F. E. Baume, who for the past twelve months has undertaken " the duty of honorary secretary of - the league. A welcome was also extended to the new honorary secretary, Miss B. Spedding. - -"ifXt It was reported that the appeal for waistcoats for the soldiers had been to - generously supported that the ' required number would be 'soon forthcoming. In connection with the appeal,- the VictoriaLeague reported that a sum of £400, practically half the amount of the Daffodil Day collection, had been placed to the credit of the Waistcoat Fund. The secretary of the league, Miss A. Holland, stated . j that the balance of the collection, lan amount of £396, would be allocated -to other funds for the benefit of our eoldiers. Special ' attention has been paid by the committee to the needs of the Maori soldiers, and each man is to be supplied with various comforts in the nature of socks, Balaclava caps, etc. Books, music, games, and cake are being provided for use on -'V the transports, . and a "sum of £25 is to g i be allocated for the benefit of the officers " of the contingent- .
