'ORDINATION CEREMONY. CONFISCATION OF LARGE AREA. (From the HERALD of September 13, 1865.) The Right Rev. Dr. Pompallier, Bishop of Auckland, assisted by the Very Rev. Dr. McDonald, Vicar-General, and thRev. Francis Boibieux, Rector of/ Kotorna, held an ordination at St. Patrick's Cathedral on last Sunday. The Rev. Patrick O'Reilly. Rev. Thomas Walsh, and Rev. James Aylward, were elevated to the j Order of Deaconship, and Mr. Bernard F. Fitzpatrick to Tonsure and the four minor orders. At intervals during the' Mass, which was celebrated, as is usual on such occasions, by the bishop, many very appropriate pieces were performed by the Catholic choir, under the able direction of the Sisters of Mercy. Two junior students of St. Mary's College, North Shore, together with the Sanctuary pupils, took part in the ceremonies. At the end of Mass his lordship gave his solemn Benediction. A correspondent at Wellington says :— " It is rumoured, and the rumour is gaining ground, that members intend to confiscate a million acres, from Matata to Opotiki, and so on down to Napier. It is believed that the Government will endeavour to pass an Act to annex this territory, when confiscated, to Hawke's Bay, thus despoiling Auckland of a million ! acres of her finest territory."
