LARGE SUM FOR WOUNDED SOLDIERS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWX COEBESPOXDEXT.] Tk Awastctc, Tuursoay The Te Awamutu and district queen carnival contest, in aid of the Wounded So" diers' Fund, extending over six weeks, which concluded on Tuesday, realised £2840 12s Bd, representing 546,876 votes. The queen-elect is Mrs. Wm. Hy. Grace, the Kihikihi candidate, who secured 116,754 votes. She is a niece of Rewi Maniapoto, who commanded the Orakan pa when the Maoris made their last fight against General Sir Duncan Cameron with, his Imperial and colonial troops. There were five other candidates. The coronation and mock court takes place on Tuesdav evening next, and a grand carnival the following day. The committee's aim is to reach £3500 for the fund by the carnival."
