MOUNT ALBERT AFFAIRS
COMPLAINTS AS TO WATER METERS The Mount Albert Borough Council met last night. There were present .-—The Mayor, Mr. Murdoch McLean, and Messrs. H. .T. Markwick, C. H. Pago,, A. M. Wilson, G. . Knight, J. H. Bradney, and F. J. H. Harrison. • Several ' complaints. were received from ratepayers regarding irregularities in tie working of water meters. Mr. Harrison stated: that a great deal of grit had been coming, through ' the water mains lately. Perhaps that had something to do with tie trouble regarding tho meters.:: It was resolved to ask tho pumping engineer to report "upon this aspect of the matter. : Upon the recommendation of • tho Fire Brigade, Water, and Lighting Committee it was; decided that in the case of meters being : found' defective, the owners be informed that the council will undertake repairs at actual cost. The committee also recommended, and it was resolved, • that the 'offer/of the City Council to supply .a number of meters to the borough be declined, as the committee considered it inadvisable to instal second-hand meters.
In regard to street lighting, it was reported that the council had authorised : tho erection of 15 lamps in various ; parts of the borough.
On behalf of Wilsons Portland Cement Company, Mr. Wilson announced that that firm would present three reinforced concrete lamp-posts to tho council for erection on the main road. Tho offer was accented with thanks. '
•Mr. Bradney was appointed the council's delegate to the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies' Association for the current year.- . • '
