WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC WORK.

CO-OPERATIVE EFFORT. ; h FURTHER HELP PROMISED. A meeting of the Auckland Women's Navy Relief Fund organisation, of which the Mayoress, "Mrs. J. H. Gunson, is I patroness, was held at the Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon. Mrs. G. R. Bloomfield presided. • The Mayor, Mr. •J. H. Gunson, was present for the purpose of discussing .with the members a suggestion that they should join 1 in tho efforts being made by tho J Auckland Women's Patriotic - League to ' provide for the large numbers of wounded soldiers who would soon be returning to ; the Dominion. Mr., Gunson said ho un-' ; derstood that the Navy Relief Fund had ! in the past been cliiefly connected with | tho Navy League. When he became • Mayor a few months ago ho and tho 1 Mayoress had to carry on the work in connection .with the Auckland Women's I Patriotic League, which . was formed in | August, 1914, for the purpose of providing for wounded soldiers. It seemed to him that, so far, they had scarcely any experience of the demand which would shortly be made upon these funds by wounded soldiers, thousands of whom would soon be in our midst. His suggestion was that either'en bloc or in large numbers individually, the ladies present might associate _ themselves with ' the league without interfering in any way with their present work. If they could see their way to join their fund with the league the Mayoress and he would appreciate it very much indeed. In a time like tho present they must work hand in hand. :. He would be. glad to help their fund in any way possible. After some discussion it was resolved "That, the members of the Auckland Women's Navy Relief Fund, white retaining their individuality, are . willing ,to assist the Mayoress in general patriotic' and wounded soldiers' work." Mrs. Gunson thanked those present for the help, they had promised to give. She would lie glad to meet them in the council chamber of the Town Hall next Friday afternoon at three o'clock, when she would have a statement, ready as to the best way. in which the two bodies could work together.
