Lissauer, the man who wrote the Hymn of Hate," writing in the Berliner Tageblatt in connection with the controversy as to the advisability of expunging it from children s books, says that he. never intended the poem for children. He had often urged that it be excluded from the school books. It was written out of a passionate impulse during the first week of the war
