MAORI OPERA COMPANY.
A spectacular opera, founded on the rorr ntic story of Maori mythology " Hinemoa," will be presented* in His Majesty's Theatre for a season of six nights, commencing on August 2. The opera company is comprised of the members of the Rev. F. A. Bennett's Maori choir, now well known throughout New Zealand. The story of the " Puhi Maid of Rotorua" was arranged for the opera by Mr. Percy Flynn, who also has charge of the orchestra. Excellent and authentic scenery is said to be a feature of the production, and the costumes used are both costly and rare, some of them being historical heirlooms. The singers who comprise the company will be heard in solos and choruses, and traditional Maori dances are introduced. A percentage of the profits will be given to the local fund for wounded soldiers, and the balance goes to the Ohinemutu Church Fund.
