HOSPITAL AND THE WAR.

SHORTAGE OF DOCTORS. ACCOMMODATION FOR WOUNDED. Several matters arising f-om the war were discussed by the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday afternoon. There were present at the meeting Mr. M. J. Coyle, chairman. Dr. Florence Keller, Messrs. F. Dye. J. G. Rutherford, E. H. Potter, P. J. Nerheny, J. Rcwe, S. J. Harbult, W. Wallace, ad G. Knight. A discussion took place in regard to the shortage of doctors, owing to so man? medical men offering their services to the. Defence Department. The chairman stated that at, the present time theie were only two junior doctors in residence at the hospital, instead of five, while the two remaining had also volunteered for service at the front. There was a danger, ha understood, of the 28 medical sludents going up for the next examination at the Dunedin University being absorbed for military service, and accordingly he had telegraphed to the Inspector-General of Hospitals, pkcing before him the hospital's need of juniors. There was also a need for doctors to administer anaesthetics. It was resolved to tor an honorary anaesthetist, and also th't menbers of the honorary consulting staff should be given the first opportunity cf assisting the honorary staff. Referring to the return of the wounded to New Zealand, the chairman stated that there was accommodation in the Auckland Hospital district for about 450 men. Possibly the number of men coming to Auckland upon the arrival of the Willochra in Wellington would not be large, but every preparation had been made for future needs. Medals were presented to Sisters Runciman and Cox, who tied for first place i» the recent examinations.
