NO CRIMINAL INTENT.
BLACKSMITH'S WORK. "There was no criminal intent, but it was a foolish action," said Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., in giving judgment yesterday in a case in Which a blacksmith, named Harry Graham, was charged with obtaining £1 4s from John Burns and Co. by a false pretence. It was stated that . the money had been received by Graham. to enable him to take up work at Matiere, but accused had got only as far as Oka'hukura, on the Main Trunk line, where he had taken other work. Mr. A. Moody,' who appeared for the accused, said that the bad state of the roads and inclement weather w.jre responsible for the man's failure to appear at Matiere. The magistrate dismissed the case, and pointed out that the informants had their remedy in a civil action for breach of contract.
