SUPPLY OF MUNITIONS.
SHELLS FROM AUSTRALIA.
WAR OFFICE ARRANGEMENT.
Melbourne, June 14.
It is stated that the production, in Australia of important parts of shells is within sight. The manager of tho Broken Hill Company made a direct appeal to the War Office and obtained a formula for the spocial steel needed.
The Sunshine Harvester Company, ■which was acting independently, obtained the requisite machinery and has arranged with the Imperial authorities to supply a large number of shell cases each month. Working in conjunction with the Broken Hill Company's Waratah steel works, it h expected that the company will turn out cases for the Bin guns of the British artillery. It is anticipated .that the shells will be in use before Christmas.
Thit Sunshine Harvester Co'mpany will be guided by information obtained by the head of the firm in England, and the chief engineer in Canada and America, where he spent three months investigating the business. - ,' '■.:,' .-,' ■■■'(!
