HERALD HOSPITAL SHIP FUND.

GENEROUS DONATIONS.

TOTAL OF £5352 RECEIVED.

The appeal to the people of the Auckland Province for fundi* to equip the New Zea'and hospital ship, and to provide for the future needs of wounded soldiers, continues to meet with an excellent response. Subscriptions to the Hebald Fund are coming in more freely than ever, and the total received yesterday proved to bo a record for 0110 day's contributions. This is particularly gratifying, for a very substantial amount will be required for the needs of sick and wounded soldiers in the future, apart from the sum which is to be forwarded for the equipment of the hospital ship.

The following resolution, sent by the Auckland Citizens' Committee to the Governor, summarises tho scope of the wider appeal that has been made for funds :-»- " That His Excellency be informed that the Auckland Provincial Hospital Ship Equipment Committee will guarantee, on behalf of the Auckland provincial district, onequarter of the sum of £25,000, also onequarter of the equipment material required as listed for tho hospital ship, and that it is hereby further resolved, after the sum of £6250 has been provided, as aforesaid, this committee appeal to tho Auckland provincial district for a continued response for funds to be devoted at the direction of tho General Committee towards the same and kindred objects, namely, the care and attention of New Zealand wounded soldiers.''

The Herald Fund now totals £5352 Is lid, the sum of £834 having been subscribed yesterday. The sum of £4500 from the fund was paid over to the Mayor of Auckland yesterday.

Amounts of one shilling upwards may be sent by post to the Herald, Auckland, or may be paid in at the Herald Office, Queen Street, Auckland, where a list has been placed. Following were the donations received yesterday
