OPEN LETTER TO THE ELECTORS OP GREATER AUCKLAND. As a candidate for the forthcoming citv elections, it is my duty to lay before you some of my views on the management of Greater Auckland Company, "unlimited." The City of Auckland at the present tUn ° has an income of over £300,000 per annum, and this means that the City of Auckland, as a company, has a capital asset of £18,000,000 sterling Now, would you, as a shareholder in tins vast company, appoint men as directors who have neither business training nor business instinct? Would you, in your own private business, engage a manager who was not a business man or had no business training? Remember that at the rate we are increasing, in another 10 years we shall have a Greater Auckland of at least a-quarter of a million population and, in spite of the present crisis, wo cannot afford to stand still, for the man who is marking time is remaining behind, leaving his competitors to pass him, so that this wonderful and beautiful citv of ours must not bo left to the management of men who arc willing to mark time. What is wanted are progressive men— who, because they aro born to progress, must go forward" in spite- of themselves. I arrived in Auckland eight years ago, a new-comer, and in that time I have created a business and a family, both of which will, I am certain, leave their name and mark in the history of Auckland. _ I have had business training and experience in most of the large cities of the world, which, in addition to certain natural gifts and ideals with which Nature has endowed me, I am willing to place at the disposal of my fellow-men for the furtherance of their interests. . It is well for the evolution of a citv or Empire to have such men managing its affairs, who believe that they have duties larger than the looking after of their back yards as a hobby, and who live up to their belief, I trust you will realise that I desir« to do my best for the city from which my wife came and in which my family lias been born, and where all my interests lie, and, realising this, will feci in sympathy with my ideals and record your vota for me next Wednesday. I am, Your obedient sen-ant, J. ZAHARA.
