VETERAN MISSIONARY.
DR. GEORGE BROWN, ENTERTAINED AT Y.M.C.A. The veteran South Sea Island missionary, Dr. George Brown, was the guest of the | president and directors of the Auckland | Young Men's Christian Association at a I luncheon at the Y.M.C.A., yesterday. There was a large gathering of ministers and business men, over which Mr. R. L. Stewart presided. Amongst those present was tho .Mayor of Auckland, Mr. C. J. Parr.
The luncheon concluded, tho visitor was welcomed to the City of Auckland by the Mayor. The city, said Mr. Parr,* was J honoured by the presence of such a man I as Dr. Bcown, whose name was a household word throughout the Pacifio , In reply, Dr. Brown expressed his I pleasure at being present at the gathering He recalled the old days in Auckland and gave reminiscences of people with whom he had been associated in religious work. None of those present could tell what an influence they might exercise over the lives of young men, with whom, perhaps, they had not spoken or come in contact. Such an institution as the Y.M.C.A. was instrumental in bringing young men together and saving them from many of the temptations of city life. He complimented those connected with the Y.M.C.A. upon the fine building thev possessed, and the fact that it was opened practically free of debt. He had never forgotten that it was from Auckland that he had been sent to the mission field. On the motion of Mr. Matthew Clarkseconded by Mr. Todd-Smith, a vote of thanks was accorded Dr. Brown for his address.
