THE MAORI CONTINGENT.
ORDERED TO MALTA. [BY TELEGRAHI.— CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Friday. The Prime Minister stated to-day that the destination of the Maori contingent, which left New Zealand in February, is Malta. When the services of the Maoris wero accepted it was understood that they were to go to Egypt to do garrison duty, there. Later, when events developed in Turkey, our field force went to Egypt, and there has been speculation as to whether the Maoris would go to join the main body at Cairo. It appears, however, that they are to be reserved for garrison duty at Malta.
