ATTACK ON THE MANITOU
FALSE COLOURS SHOWN. TRANSPORT'S BOATS LOWERED (Received April 21, 2 a.m.) Athens, April 23.
A Greek sailor on the transport Manitou states that the Turkish torpedoer was flying the Russian flag. She signalled the Manitou to stop, and was obeyed. When she was 150 yds away, the torpedoer hoisted the Turkish flag and discharged a torpedo. Fearing that the vessel was doomed, the commander of the Manitou had lowered all the boats, crammed with men, when the British cruiser arrived and chased and drove the torpedoer ashore-
