OBITUARY.
MAORI WAR VETERAN. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Waxgaxci, Sunday. Advice has been received at Hawera of tho death at Manutah' of Captain \\m. Stanley Ginger, who took a prominent, part ill the Maori war. Captain Ginger, who was 73 years old, arrived at New Plymouth with his parents by the ship Joseph Fletcher in 1852, and joined tho Taranaki ItiHe Volunteers, and was en-sran-ed in practically all the engagements in ".North iaranaki in which tho vuluiiteers took part. On the outbreak of Titokowaru's war the deceased and Ins three brothers joined the I atea[ Ja"*' * ' * On the occasion of the le Whili s(.._io Mr. (oncer received a captain's coming and was placed in charge of the Kak'aramea volunteers. Despite the fa. Mnt lie took pan in many engagements tho deceased was never wounded. A northcote resident. Mr Alfred Woodrofte. a retired nurseryman of Milton Koi'd, N'ui'tlu'ote, died somewhat suddenly at his residence on Situ-day afternoon. The deceased had been' in 'failing health for some time past and had been attended by Dr. J. Aeill Keith, who certified that the cause of death was heart failure Mr. Woodroffe, who was 67 vears of a.je, is survived by his widow. Until recent years, he took an jf tive interest iu the affairs of the Northcote district, and was prominent m the movement which lestlted in the installation of the water supply.
