«. 17th PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION. CLOSES APRIL 30, 1915, MOST ATTRACTIVE PRIZE LIST OFFERED IN AUSTRALASIA. IMPROVED CONDITIONS. PAYMENTS FOR ALL PRINTS PUBLISHED. The proprietors of the Auckland Weekly News have much pleasure in announcing their Seventeenth Photographic Prize Competition. The sum of £30 is offered under conditions which, it is hoped, will prove even more popular than those of past years. The new features provide for payment of all entries published—with the exception of prizewinning photographs —at tho rate of 3s 6d each for whole-plate size, and 2s 6(1 each for half-plate size and less. These annual competitions are promoted ■ with a view to encouraging photographers—both professionals and amateurs—to produce pictures of the kind demanded by modern journalism. New Zealand is already famous for the high quality of its photographic work, but still further progress can bo made, and it is for tho purpose of forwarding this progressive movement that the Weekly News competitions are arranged. Unrivalled climatic conditions prevail in New Zealand, and photographers possess great opportunities for doing the kind id outdoor work which an up-to-date illustrated newspaper requires. The competition is arranged in seven classes, which fairly represent all the kinds of work required of the newspaper photographer. Every person who possesses a camera can find in one or other of the classes something which he or sho can do. City people may not be able to send a farm view, but "they can easily secure a good seascai* or a yachting snapshot, , while toe man on the land who never sees the ocean for years at a time might be successful with "a bush view or landscape. The competition is advertised early, so that competitors may have the benefit of tlie summer season and the Easter holidays in which to obtain good pictures. The competition will close on April 30 next. The following are the various classes and the amounts ot prizes offered ;— 1. A New Zealand Landscape (with or without figure). First prize, £3; second prize, £1, 2. A New Zealand Seascape (with or without figure). First prize, £3; second prize, £1. 3. New Zealand Adult Figure Study (European or Maori). First prize, £3; second prize, £1. 4. New Zealand Child Figure Studi (European "r Maori). First prize, £3; second prize, £1. 5. Vami. Station, or Bush Um Scene. First prize, £3; second pri/.e, £1. 6. Yachting or Boating View. First prize, £3, second prize, £1. 7. Jest (Junreal Collection of Nhh Zealand Photographs. First prize, £4 ; second prize, £2. Exhibits under Class 7 can also he en " tereil in the various classes previously specified. CONDITIONS. No photograph prevTOiisjy published oi entered for any other competition will b< allowed to compete. The negatives mus in all cases be the work of tho com petitor. Competitors should remember that smal views, although allowed to compete, an not so suitable for reproduction as halt plates or full-plates. In awarding the prizes the suitability of the photograph for reproduction wil be taken into consideration. Glossy bro midc and glossy P.O.P. prints are tin most suitable. The proprietors will have the firs right to reproduce any photograph sent ii for competition. Such photographs apart from prize-winning prints, will b paid for immediately after publication a the rate of 3s 6d for whole-plates am 2s 6d for all sizes smaller than whole i plate. All pictures entered in the com petition remain the property of th Auckland Weekly News until sue time as they are published by the pre prictors.
