AN EXTRAORDINARY ENTRY.

The sports carnival of the Auckland Public uj. ,L alcu !' Athletic Association was held at the Domain Cricket Ground on Thursday m ideal weather and before a largo attendance of relatives and friends of the competing[scholars. Some of the sprint races were divided into as many as 15 heats, and in the longer distance races, such as the half-mile and one mile flat championships, over 50 boys started in each. The racing was always full of interest, and with such big fields it was only natural that there should be many close and exciting finishes. The arrangements for the sports were carefully made and were, carried out oy a large number of enthusiastic officials, with the result that the lengthy programme finished right on time. The first race was started at 10 a.m. and the last at 6 p.m. In addition 4 ° the individual championships the schools competed for a banner which was awarded on points, five for a first place and three for a second place in all events except three—the bicycle, relay, and open M races The banner,' which was he d by the Grey Lynn school, was won by Ellerslie with 16 points.
