The tone of tho butter mnrkot is easier owing to the large quantity of colonial butter available. Quotations are as follows Danish, buyers 1365, sellers 140s; choicest Australian, salted, buyers 130s, sellers 1325; unsalted, buyers 1325, sellers 134s ; secondaries, buyers 1245, sellers 128s. New Zealand, choicest, buyers 1345, sellers 1365. A few unsalted lots are quoted at 138s. Cheese is steady. New Zealand, buyel's 935, sellers 945; Australian, buyers 88s, sellers 925. METALS. Copper, buyers £69 10s, sellers £70 2s 6d. Tin, buyers £168, sellers £166. Silver, 23Jd per ounce. Pig iron, 67s 7d. Lead, buyers £23, sellers £21 15s. Spelter, buyers £42 10s, sellers £43 10s. Quicksilver, £12 5s per bottle. GRAIN. FLOUR, AND PULSE. Wheat is quieter and unchanged. Flour is steady and unchanged. Bailey is dull, and the tendency is easier. Oats are quiet. Bahia Blanca, AprilMav shipment, 295. Peas and beans are dull, and the market is in the buyers' favour. WOOL. The Bradford wool business is limited. Prices are fairly well maintained. HEMP. Hemp is slow. March-May shipments £34 10s. RUBBER. Rubber, Para 2s 5Jd, Plantation 2s 4d, smoked 2s 4Jd. COPRA. Copra, March-April shipments, £25 10s. COTTON. Cotton, May-June shipments, 5.54 d. TALLOW. At the tallow sales 1264 casks were offered, and 948 sold. Mutton: Fine brought 42s 6d, medium 38s. Beef; Fine 435, and medium 37s 6d.

DEMAND FOR CROSSBREDS.

London, April 1. At the wool sales the quantity sold for home consumption was 109,000 bales, for the Continent 12,000, and for the United States 5000, while the quantity held was 18.000 bales. Compared with last closing pricts best greasy Merinos were unchanged, whilst average and faulty declined 7$ per cent., scoureds id. All crossbreds met an increasingly keen demand, fine advancing 9 per cent., medium and coarse 10 per cent., scoureds and elipes 5 per cent. Lambs: Merino unchanged, crossbreds advanced 10 per cent. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. [bt telegraph.—press association.! Wellington, Thursday. The High Commissioner has forwarded the following market report, dated London, March 31:— " The wool sales have closed. The prospects are favourable owing to tho Americans holding off. The Continental buying continues. The estimated value of fine crossbreds of all grades is from 17d to 19Jd per lb. Medium crossbreds, all grades, is worth from I6d to 18Jd; coarse crossbreds, all grades from 15d to 18d ; superior Merino, 14id to 16d; medium, lid to 14d; and inferior, 8d to Hid. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London office, under Thursday's date :—" Wool' sales closed.
