CITY COUNCIL PICNIC.
SUCCESSFUL OUTING
PoMniNiNC business with pleasure, the. Mayor and the majority of the members i-.f the ( ~, Council spent yesterday in i tin' range.* inspecting the source of AuckI land's water supply. One object of the I trip, tf 10 first since the amalgamation of I (lii'V I,vim with the city, was to acquaint |.'l'ir {'•if/ Lynn councillors who are now- | .11 the City Council with the locality. I si that when the City Council discusses I water schemes all the members may have I a knowledge of the subject. A number | of invited guests accompanied the connI cilors on the expedition, including Mr. j A. M. Myers. MP.. Mr. George Elliot, : Mr. Oliver Nicholson. Mayor of Mount I Eden, end Mr. Murdoch McLean, Mayor j of Mount Albert, the districts of Mount | Eden and Mount Albert both being large j consumers of the city water. Shortly after 8 a.m. a dozen motor-cars j conveying the 45 members of the party left the Town Hall en route for Nihotupu. I A short halt was made near Waiatarua ill order to inspect a property with a view to having a deviation made in the i existing road, which will lower the grade. | Having left the cars, the party walked about two miles along a narrow and tortuous bush trac < which ] led to the new Nihotupu dam i now in course of construction. On the way advantage was taken of a line panoj ramic view of the Huia Valley to discuss ! the proposed suggestion to dam the Huia 1 Stream, and thus to augment the existing ! sup; ly from the N";hotupu Stream in the i adjoining gorge. I Utilising the horse-drawn trolleys, the i party then mac e their way along the pipe- , track to Titir.i.igi, a few of "the more I energetic of those present covering some lof the distance or. foot. Lurcheoj was . partaken cf at the cookhouse along the Ip pc track. Before leaving Titirangi, I where the motor-cars were waiting, a j w ilk was taken through Atkinson's Park I the beautiful bush there being generally I voted to be even riper tluin that passed I through on the way from Nihotupu. I Auckland was reached at about 6 p.m. Ideal weather favoured the excursion, which was thoroughly enjoyed bv all present. ' •' *■
