The Times, in a leader, says that the leading duty of the good citizen to-day is to keep his head. Concerning the rise in the price of wheat, it states that fishing -will increase, eggs will become, more plentiful, and the supply of vegetables will increase. It points out in regard to the rise in prices, that the British people may consider themselves extremely fortunate in escaping so lightly. None of their allies have done' so and few if anv of the neutral nations.

Copenhagen reports that the German press is complaining bitterly of Britain's attempt to cause a famine in Germany. It declares that the whole British nation must be regarded as a hateful enemy. The German press demands that submarines and Zeppelins should attack Britain daily "and everywhere possible.

Reports from Paris state that suburban Paris is suffering intensely from the increase in the cost of living and the stagnation of business. Every family has sent, a sol dier to the front and many two and three. The women folk who are left behind are endeavouring to keep brave faces. It is difficult to apply State grants to people of this class. They have joined working women in the queues outside soup kitchens. All have given up attending theatres and cinematograph entertainments, singing lessons and finery, and are busily knitting and crocheting-

The Pope has written a prayer for deliverance from the horrors of war, to be used throughout Europe on February 7, and outside of Europe on March 21.
