WHEAT SHIPMENT.
KAIAPOI'S CLEARANCE.
MR. D. R. HALL HOPEFUL.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Ellington, Sunday. The Prime Minister stated yesterday that it no-w seems more likely that arrange ments will be made by wliich the wheat purchased by the New Zealand Government in Sydney and now loaded on the Kaiapai will be allowed to leave Sydney. j. he Government are taking the necessary steps tn> supply flour to those districts where none is obtainable. Quite a number of districts have made urgent application to the Government. Up to the present no district baa "suffered a bread famine. In order to supply such demands the Government ha& placed an order for 300 tons of flour with a Northern firm.
This telegram was referred to Mr D R. Hall, New South Wales AttorneyGeneral, prior to his departure for Wellington last .night. Mr. Hall had received a cablegram on Saturday making certain suggestions 'which would enable an earlv clearance to be granted to the Kaiapoi, which he communicated immediately to the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth, Mr. Fisher. It seemed likely, Mr. Had said, from the Herald telegram, that the negotiations would be successful. The New South Wales Government had .made offers to fully protect the interests of any shippers of the Kaiapoi wheat, should it ultimately transpire that the Government had gone beyond its powers in seizing any particular consignment.
