NO DEFENCE TOURNAMENT.
ABANDONED FOR THIS YEAR.

Wellington, Sunday. The Defence authorities have decided to abandon the naval and military tournament for this year. For years the annual tournament drew volunteers, and later territorials, from all parts of New Zeafena to Palmerston North for the Christmas and New Year week. When the Defence Department took over the control of the tournament three years ago it was arranged to hold the tournament in successive years in each of the- four military districts. The first was held in Christchurch, and lastyear the tournament was hcid in Auckland. This year it was the tarn of Donedin, and the preliminary arrangements had been made, but it has now been deemed advisable in all the circumstances to abandon the meeting for this year.
