JERMYN STREET SCHEME.

HARBOUR BOARD'S POWERS,

Wellington, Saturday. The Auckland City and Harbour Board Empowering Bill, which, among other mutters, gives tho City Council the necessary statutory authority for carrying out the Jermyn Street and Beach Road street widening scheme, was passed through all its stages in the House of Representatives this morning, without discussion. Mr. Myers (Auckland East) waa in charge of the Bill. The Auckland Harbour Board Vesting Bill, which was also in the charge of Mr. Myers, was likewise passed through all the stages. The contentious clauses in this Bill had been deleted by the Local Bills Committee, and as it was passed, the Bill contains two clauses, giving tho board power to accept the surrender of the lease of land held by the Tramways Company and to grant a new lease, and also power to make surveys and inquiries regarding the proposed canal between -tho Kaipara and Waitemata Harbours. In regard to the Takapuna Borough Foreshore Vesting Bill, which is in charge of Mr. Harris (Waitemata), Mr. Glover (Auckland Central) said that some of the residents of Takapuna were opposed to some of the clauses. There were many complaints regarding the removal of shell from the beaches at the beach where he resided.

Mr. Harris said that the primary object of the Bill was to prevent the removal of sheli. The Bill passed its various stages. The Whangarei Land Vesting "Bill, hi charge of Mr. Mander (Marsden) was passed without discussion. The Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland I Empowering Bill, in charge of Mr. Bradney (Auckland West), was passed I with some minor amendments.

The Awakino County Council Bill was withdrawn by Mr. Wilson (Taumarunui).
