MANY GREENS OPENED.

Many bowling clubs opened the season on Saturday, when formal ceremonies were held. The greens at Eemuera. Ponsonby, Rocky Nook. Grey Lynn, and Onehunga were officially declared open for play. The members of the Ponsonby Bowling j Club, assisted by a largo number of ladies and visitng bowlers, celebrated the twenty- : hrsl birthday of the club in beautiful weather on Saturday afternoon. The president, Mr. '' C. H. Jones, welcomed tho members and ] visitors, and in doing so referred to the occa sion as an historic one. It was now not only the oldest suburban club, but it was the fifth i largest in th; Dominion. The club was never so prosperous, and the membership list never I so large as at present. There was a very large number of visitors present from the surrounding districts, and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. The president. Mr. W' Clark, opened the greens. Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Alfred Court throwing the jacks on the old and new greens respectively. Play then commenced between teams selected by the president and the vice-presidents, which resulted in a, win for the former by 158 points to 112. WAIHI. There was a large attendance of bowlers, including quite a number of visiting players from clubs throughout the goldfields district. In the absence of the president. Mr. N. Mcßobie. o:ie of the vicepresidents, Mr. J. Whitehead, declared the green open tor play, and welcomed tho visitors. Mrs. Whitehead then threw tho jack across the green. The match between teams representing the president and vicepresidents was then proceeded with, eight, rinks being used. An enjoyable and interesting contest ended in a win for ihe vicepresidents' representatives by 65 points, the winners' total being 176, against 111.
