CAUGHT IN BELTING.

SHOCKING ACCIDENT TO CHILD.

[BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Cambridge, Friday. The seven-year-old daughter of Mr. J. T. Hicks, farmer, of Maungatautari, met with a shocking accident this morning. She had been staying with a neighbour, Mrs. G. S. Day. for a couple of weeks past, and followed her usual custom of accompanying Mrs. Day's »i'own-up daughter to the milkingshed, where a milking-machine is in use. The child had been told never to go near the belting, but this morning, while Miss Day turned her back for a few minutes, the child's curiosity caused her to climb up on the bails while the engine was in motion, with tho result that her hair caught in the shafting, and her scalp was completely torn off.

Dr. Stapley motored out and brought the little sufferer into the .local nursing home. Fortunately no bones were broken, and the child will probably recover.
