ENEMY'S GREAT EFFORTS.

"NOWHERE SUCCESSFUL."

ADVANCE OF THE ALLIES.

(Received October 24. 1.30 a.m.) Paris, October 23.

The enemy's activity was to-day continued with undiminished violence at La Bassee. The Germans were unable, to force back the Belgians or the Franco-British.

Similarly between Arras and the Oise the enemy's great efforts were nowhere successful.

We have progressed in the Argonne district between Saint Hubert and Fourde-Pais, and have gained ground at Haument, Brabant, northward of Verdun, and in the Woevre. We have repulsed attacks at Champion.
