MO^THLY RETURNS.
By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright
Rbisbajtb, October 23. The Mount Morgan returns for tho/inonth ended October 18 shots that the batteries treated 27,442 tons of ore, producing 731 tons of blister copper, containing 723 tons copper and 92100z gold.
In a letter to shareholders, the directors of the Mount Morgan Gold Mining Company, Queensland, state that it has been decided not to declare for the present the interim quarterly dividend, which would, under usual circumstances, have been payable on October 1. This decision has been arrived at after careful consideration and is due to the present inability to dispose of copper products. The board consider it desirable to conserve finances as much as possible in order to carry on mining and treatment operations at the mine, thereby providing employment for the majority of the hands. Arrangements made as to finance will, it is hoped, enable operations to be continued on a slightly reduced output of blister. How long the company can keep running will depend upon conditions in Europe. TREATMENT OF WOLFRAM. With the assistance of the British Government, a factory is being rebuilt in Yorkshire for the extraction of wolfram. i This will give an outlet for wolfram, for which hitherto Germany has furnished the only market. So far as Australia is concerned, the principal producing States, in the order of their output, are Queensland, New South Wales, and Tasmania, though smaller quantities have been produced in South Australia and Victoria, and a field has recently been discovered in the West Kimberley district of West Australia. Last year the Commonwealth's export amounted to 13,192cwt, the value of which was £69,727. of which over 81 per cent., that is. 10.732cwt, went to Germany, and the small balance of 2460 tons to' Great Britain.
