CORDIAL UNDERSTANDING. THANKS TO ADMIRALTY. VALUE OF ALLY'S HELP. Wellington, October 22. The Prime Minister has been advised that the Admiralty has communicated the following telegram to I the Minister for Marine atTokio: — "I desire, on behalf of the. British Admiralty, to express at this crucial stage of the war, our deep sense of appreciation of the efforts and energy with which the Japanese Navy is sustaining the cause of their ally. Apart from the great object of the extermination of the main German base in the Pacific, Japanese ships and squadrons are everywhere giving us help of a valuable character in the protection of trade, the search for the enemy's ships, and the convoy of troops to the decisive theatre of conflict.'' The Japanese Minister for Marine has replied to the Admiralty as follows: — "On behalf of the Imperial Japanese Navy I tender my warmest thanks for your sincere and cordial message, and assure you that it is of the utmost satisfaction to us that perfect harmony and understanding exists everywhere between the two allied navies, which strikes the true note of the main object of the compact, and which will tend to hasten the attainment of the ultimate goal."
