USE BY RIFLE CLUBS.

Wellington, Wednesday. I.v reply to a question from Mr. Myers ((Auckland East), the Minister for Defence stated to-day that the Department realised the extreme inconvenience imposed upon the members of the Akarana Defence Rifle Club by withholding permission to use the Penrose rifle range on October 3. The order was issued by the district headquarters at Auckland, on receipt of a telegram saying that tho issue of ammunition on purchase by rifle clubs was to cease. Instructions have been issued to the district headquarters directing that the rifle clubs shall be permitted, to nse the Penrose range on Saturday afternoons, when it is not required for trailing reinforcements for the expeditionary force, and when ammunition is available for use.
