PART PLAYED BY CAVALRY IN THE WAR.

MASSED CHARGES NO LONGER THE RULE. WORK REQUIRES RUSE AND INITIATIVE. (Received October 21, 11 p.m.) Paris, October 20. A wounded officer states that the, public has not yet realised the wok of the allies' cavalry in north-cast France. There are no longer massed charges in which thousands meet in the shock, but engagements in detail have taken their place, in which ruse and initiative play a. prominent part. Cavalry which penetrates the enemy's lines gains ground without arousing attention and does much to ensure victory. The allies in hand-to-hand fighting always have the advantage, despite the unconcern with which German generals sacrifice life.
