DOMESTIC INFELICITY. DRINK CAUSES TROUBLE. A tendexct on the part of the husband to drink too much on occasions was stated in the Magistrate's Court yesterday to be the cause of the trouble between F. J. Porter and his wife. Last week the wife sought separation and maintenance orders, and custody of the children, but Mr. C. C. Kettle, S.M.. adjourned the case until yesterday when the three children were brought into Court. *
Evidence was given that the homo was clean and that tho children were well cared for. The husband, it was said, was a hard-working man, but inclined to excessive drinking
The parties having agreed to live together again, Mr. Kettle asked the husband to abstain from alcohol for 12 months. This he would not promise to do, but suggested that ho would if his wife did 'likewise. But Mrs. Porter refused to make ?ny such promise, saying that it was quite unnecessary. As the husband still declined to bo voluntarily prohibited, His Worship issued a compulsory prohibition order against him for 12 months.
TWO MOTORS COLLIDE. CLAIM FOR DAMAGES FAILS. As the result of a collision in Queen Street on July 15 between two motor-cars, William Frederick Allen (Mr. Hall Skelton) claimed the sum of £22 4s as damages from George Hopkins (Mr. Baxter). The plaintiff alleged that the defendant was to blame for the collision, but this tho defendant denied.
