TRANSVAAL MINES.
The statement of gold production for July issued by the Transvaal Chamber of Mines is to hand. For that month the Transvaal mines yielded 732,4850z of fine gold, valued at £3,111,398, an increase in' value of £377,481 compared with the return for JnlyfFl9l3. The returns' for the first seven months of 1914 represent a value of £20,471,222, a decrease of £2,023,951 compared with the corresponding period of last year.
NEW WAITAIA. In the New Waitaia mine, Kuaotunu, the north drive at the low level was extended 12ft last week. The reef is from 15in to 18in wide and prospects well, both in the loose rubble and in the hard stone. In the stone fine streaks of gold can be seen. _ No. 2 rise, south of the main crosscut, is up 73ft. The formation of the reef is smaller, both walls being exposed, and more quartz is making.
ROSS GOLDFIELDS. [BY telegram.—pkess association] Wellington-, Thursday. The Ross mine superintendent telegraphs that the past week's gold return was 370z lOdwt, obtained from 857 trucks of wash.
