COMMITTEE'S ARRANGEMENTS,

It was reported at a meeting of tho General Committee of the Auckland Patriotic League yesterday afternoon, at which Mr. C'has. Rhodes, in the absence of tho Mayor, was chairman, that the financial position wa6 as follows

Amounts received to date 41,877 12 11 Sent to Wellington or disbursed 6.091 1 2 Total in hand or on deposit £35,786 11 9 A sum of £6000 is on deposit, at call, with tho City Council, £25,000 is on fixed deposit for 12 months with the Bank of New Zealand, and there is a credit balanco of £4786 lis 9d in the league's current account. The committee's investments, it was reported, were earning £97 Is 8d per month.

I The Finance Committee reported that since tho last, meeting the sub-committee Messrs. learner, Bankart, Sprngg, Milroy, and —appointed to deal with tho question of local distress caused by unemployment and the withdrawal of wage-earners ( from families as the result of the war, had completed its organisation. Weekly meetings were being held and reports' submitted by the various agents of tho charitable organisations, ihe total number of recipients of the committees aid for the week ending September 22 was 22, and the amount expended was £11 9s 9d. The committee was endeavouring to obtain free medical and nursing attendance for those requiring it from local medical and nursing associations. 'iho committee also reported that it had received a deputation of the seniors of the ambulance staff, Colonel Begg and Major Murray, who made an appeal for a sum of money to enable the ambulance service to relieve the immediate necessities of sick and wounded soldiere who may be away some distance from a base or frcnas, and who in the course of their t-eivico may havo lost their service kit which ordinarily they have for their own use. The committee had resolved to contribute the 6iim of £500, and to request each main centre of New Zealand to contribute a similar amount for the use of the ambulance service only. The committee suggested that the amount when raised should be vested in an honorary committee in London, consisting of die managers of the Bank of New Zealand and National Bank, and of the New Zealand and South British Insurance Companies. The matter was at present in abeyance pending replies from the centres to whom the committee's proposal had been submitted.
