An official communique published in Paris unmistakably demonstrates that the French have surrounded the Germans in the Somme Department. * The communique is as follows:-The. French line in the Pont-a-Mousson district extends along a lir., from Apemont, which is five miles south-east of Saint Mihiel, to the Meuse. North of Saint Mihiel the. line extends from the heights north of Spada to the south-east of Verdun. Between Verdun and Rheims the front passes Varennes to the north of Souain. and the Roman Road leading to Rheims, skirts Rheims, and follows the road to Berryarboa and the heights called Les Hauteurs du Chemin des Damse. The line follows the Aisne to Soissons, and then includes the first plateau on the northern bank to Compiegne. The line between the Oise and the Somme corresponds to the Rib, court front, the enemy holding Lassignv and Chaulnes, and the allies holding Rove. North of the, Somme the lino extends to the plateau between Albert and C'ombles.
