A great column of steam has Seen rot-iced rising from White Island all (lay and old residents venture the opinion that matters there must bo extremely lively. There are still no tidings of the missing men.

[BY TELEGRAPH CORRESPONDED* Wellington*, WednesdayMr. Paul, an inspector of the Mine* Department, who has visited WKite Island bv the direction of the Minister - CT Mines, has reported that he has visited tie site of the late camp, and that no sign of the late inhabitants of the islaPi has been discovered. The site, he states, is buried under 20ft or 30ft of debris, and there is no possible hope that any of th« men have survived.
