SINKING OF THE GERMAN CRUISER HELA.
BRITISH SUBMARINE RETURNS IN SAFETY
ENEMY SUNK SIX MILES SOUTH OF HELIGOLAND. Wellington, September 17. The High Commissioner reports from London on September 16 that the submarine E9 has returned safely after having torpedoed a German cruiser, believed to be the Hela, six miles south of Heligoland.
A cablegram from Berlin published yesterday stated that it was officially announced that a torpedo fired by a British submarine sank the German cruiser iiela. The majority of the crew were saved.
