TEMPORARY APPOINTMENTS.

Wellington 1 , Thursday. The following temporary appointments of officers of the staff, New Zealand Staff Corps and territorial forces, during the absence from New Zealand of the New Zealand expeditionary force are announced in a Gazette to-night: —

Colonel Alfred William Robin, C.8., C.M.G., New Zealand Staff Corps, Quarter-master-General to the Forces to command the New Zealand military forces.

Captain Frank Hudson, New Zealand Staff Corps, from the general e'aff headquarters to be assistant military secretary and aide-de-camp to the commandant of the New Zealand military forces.

Captain Annesley Craven Robinson, army service corps from assistant director of supplies and transport to be inspector of army service corps.

The undermentioned are attached to the general staff at headquarters:—Lieutenant William Broucker Powlett Hiring, Royal New Zealand Artillery; Second Lieutenant Edward Pardon, New Zealand Staff Corps, and granted the temporary rank of lieutenant while so employed; Major Herbert Edward Pilkington, Royal New Zealand Artillery, from Assistant Adjutant-General to be Adjutant-General to the Forces; Colonel James Robert Purdy, honorary physician to His Excellency the Governor, reserve of officers New Zealand Medical Corps, to be director of medical services, dated August 27, 1914; Captain (temporary major) \\ illiatn Leo Robinson, New Zealand Staff Corps, from assistant-quartermaeter-goneral in a district to be I an assistant-quartermaster-general at headI quarters, and to retain the temporary rank of major while so employed. The District Commanders. The undermentioned are to command districts: — Colonel Joseph Cowie Nichols, V.D., A.D.C.. Commander of the Otago Mounted Rifles Brigade, dated August 18, 1914. Colonel Robert Ward Tate, Commander of the Wellington Infantry Brigade, dated August 21, 1914. ' I Colonel C. T. Major, D.5.0., Comman-1 der of the Auckland Infantry Brigade, dated August 10, 1914. The following will be general staff officers in districts, and are granted the temporary rank of major while so employed, dated August 12, 1914: —Captain Daniel Aloy&ius Hickev, D.5.0., New Zealand Staff Corps ; Captain Wilson Cameron Morrison, New Zealand Staff Corps, Captain William Charles Finni3, New Zealand Staff Corps. Assistant Quartermasters-General. The following are to be assistant quarter-masters-general in district and are granted the temporary rank of major while so employed:—Captain Samuel Alexander Grant; Captain James Edgecombe Barton, Royal New Zealand Artillery.
