EXPLOSION OF GELIGNITE.

, Thames, Sunday. Information was recei\cd by the police' yesterday that a man named Patrick Smith, who has been an inmate of tho I hospital for tho past four months, had committed suicide. Tho deceased had been accommodated in a shelter-shed at i the hospital. About 3 p.m. his companion in tho shelter-shed, a man named Osborne Smith, who was walking in the grounds, heard a report. Looking towards tho shed ho saw that the window was broken. On examination deceased was found lying
quite (lend with his head blown completely off, and from his appearance, it was evident that ho had blown his head off with a charge of gelignite. | [lIT TEUGIUrH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] I Hastings, Sunday. A widower named William Lano, aged 63 years, an old and respected citizen, committed suicide on Friday evening at his rod's residence-. An explosion was heard, and Lano was subsequently found with his head shattered and a doublebarrelled gun by his side. Ho was formerly a road contractor, and was an exMayor of the town.
