THE CASTALIA ARBITRATION.

[bt telegraph.— association.]

Christchtjbch, Thursday. The New Zealand Racing Conference arbitrators, Sir George Clifford and Messrs. CG. Dalgoty and H. Friodlander, appointed by consent of the parties to the dispute as to the payment of 25sovs to the breeder of tho winner of 'he Avondale Stakes, 1913, have decided that the word " brooder" is in the esse of a breeder of a foal clearly confined for all stud and racing purposes to the owner of the dam at tho time when such foal was dropped. The arbitrators further decided that there was no power inherent in the stewards or committee of tho club to vary the plain meaning of the word " breeder" as so used, and therefore directed thai the sum allocated to the brooder of Castalia, winnor of tho Avondale Stakes, bo paid to Mr. F. Hall, who it was adir.ittol purchased hor da.m prior to tho day on which Castalia was foaled."
