HARBOUR PRECAUTIONS
NO LEADING LIGHTS.
REGULATIONS OBSERVED.
In accordance with instructions Issued by the Minister for Marine," the leading lights of th 6 harbour and gulf were extinguished for the first time last night. Tho instructions are to the effect that from sunset to sunrise until further notice all leading lights in Auckland Harbour must remain unlighted. The lights so affected are Bean Rock lighthouse, Rangitoto Beacon, and the leading flash-light on the King's Wharf. The distinguishing coloured lights on the end of the principal wharves remain lighted as usual,
In consequerce of the instructions issued by the authorities, the Northern Steamship Company has found it necessary to alter the sailing times of its steamers. The company announces that while the regulation, is in force its steamers will leave the wharves for the various coastal porta between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4.50 p.m., while all vessels will enter port between 7 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. Almost the whole of the Northern Company's steamers will be affected by the regulation.
A Press Association message from Westport states, that the Marine Department has advised the Harbour Board that the lights at Westport and at Oape-Foul wind are to fie extinguished until further notice. The chairman of the Westport Harbour Board is receiving many protests against the decision of the Department as bejng likely to have a detrimental effect upon trade of the port.
