The Russians arc still masters of the Gulf of Finland. Fearing a Gorman attack, however, they smashed the lenses of the Bonsker lighthouse, worth over £3000 apiece- v The commander g'f the Russian force at Hango was ordered to mine the harbour of that town, and to blow up the pier, but only in caso of imminent danger.
In a fit of nervousness, however, the commander blew up valuable harbour works. Subsequently, realising hi? mistake he committed suicide.
Hango is a Finnish town at- the entrance to tho Gulf of Finland. It is the terminus of the railway running from St. Petersburg along the north ehore of tho gulf.
