A verdict of suicide by poisoning, while suffering from a temporary loss of mental balance during ill-health, was recorded by Mr. F. V. Frazer, S M., district coroner, at an inquest held yesterday concerning the death on Tuesday morning' of Mr. Ernest Medley.

At a very largely attended meeting of the Auckland St. John Ambulance Nursing Brigade on Tuesday evening, Nurse Morri son gav> a most interesting and instructive lecture on " Home Nursing." At the close of the meeting several members volunteered for service abroad during the war.

About 100 members of the Nos. 1 and 3 companies, New Zealand Garrison Artiflery, met in the Drill Hall last evening and decided to forward a telegram to the Prime Minister, the Hon. W. F. Maesey, offering themselves for active service. A strong committee was set up to take in hand the work of thoroughly organising the companies.

The members of the Waitemata County Council handed in subscriptions at yesterday's meeting, which are to form the nucleus of a war fund to which the people of the county can subscribe. The subscriptions taken at the meeting from the councillors, town clerk, and engineer totalled £60. This wa s a personal sub scription, and docs not come from the funds of the Council.
