DOMINION'S FORGE, MOBILISATION CONTINUES. SELECTING AUCKLAND MEN MORE TROOPS IN THE CAMP APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS Further progress was made in Auckland yesterday in the enrolment of volunteora for tho expeditionary force. Numbers of men were medically examined, the- greatest care being taken to reject any volunteers not complying with tho conditions laid down as to physical fitness. and age. Several hundred more men were drafted to tho local mobilisation camp at Epsom, where-, by last evening, there were between 30 and 40 officers and between 300 and 400 other ranks I under canvas. Several squads of volunteers accepted from country districts arrived at tho camp during the clay. Infantry form the majority of the troops already in camp, as it will bo a day or two . before the horses of the mounted troops are passed by tho veterinary officer. Several appointments of officers to serve with the Auckland portion of the expeditionary force have been approved. Lieu-tenant-Colonel Plugge, tho commanding officer, will have as his.second in command Captain Harrowell. Captain Hawkins will bo adjutant, Captain Eraser machine-gun officer, Lieutenant Graham quartermaster, and Captain Craig medical officer. Tho officers of tho 3rd, Auckland, Company will be Captain Price, Lieutenants Macfarlano and Woolley, Second Lieutenants West, Harrison, and Carpenter; of tho 15th, North Auckland, Company, Major. Bayly, Captain Bartlett, Lieutenant Screaton, Second Lieutenants Steadman and Harding; of the 6th, Hauraki, Company, Captains Clark and Sinel, Lieutenants Algie and Morpeth, Second Lieutenant Flower; of tho 16th, Waikato, Company, Major Itastrick, Captain McDonald, Lieutenants Luxford and Wcstmacott, Second Lieutenants Allen and Baddeloy. The members of the Permanent Staff who are to go from this district aro Staff-Sergeants-Major Robertson, Notloy, Moncrieff, and Cosgrove. The Rank of the Officers. Officers, except brigadiers, appointed to units in the expeditionary force will in every case wear badges of the rank, laid down by war establishment, to which they are appointed. This may mean that some officers will hold a lower rank for

the period during which they servo with the expeditionary force. No promotions in substantive rank will bo made, grants of temporary rank will be given when necessary, but only by authority of the general officer commanding. ' Every squadron or company in the expeditionary forco will bo known by the title, of tho territorial regiment from which it is furnished, and will wear its uniform and badge. The Hallway Corps. Members of the railway service must not bo enlisted by other units for the territorial force, the railway. corps furnishing its own detachment. All members of the railway battalion are now attending to their ordinary duties in full uniform, so as to be ready at a moment's notice for any call that may be made upon them, A certain number of cyclists and motorcyclists will accompany the expeditionary force, tho riders being selected from the various ranks of volunteers. The Defence authorities would be glad , for any donations of motor-cycles. The Signal Company. The divisional signal. company, known ,as tho College : Rifles, has already. sent one batch of men to Wellington. Another 36 men and one officer wont into camp last night in the clubrooma in Grafton Road. The contingent comprises cable, field telegraph, and signalling squads. CANTERBURY CONTINGENT.. The full number was not . taken from tho territorials, and a call was made upon outside volunteers. There was practically no difficulty in getting sufficient numbers, and oflicers volunteering were far in excess of requirements. Major Stewart, of tho Ist Canterbury Regiment, has boon appointed to the command of the Canterbury Infantry Battalion, with tho rank of lieutenant-colonel. ..Major Loach, of the 13th Regiment, is second in command. MOTOR-CYCLISTS' CORPS. OFFER TO GOVERNMENT. A meeting of motor-cyclists, convened by tho Auckland Motor-cyclo Club, was held last evening. Mr. O. Bartley presided over an attendance of about 50. Mr. Neville Ncwcomb, president of the Auckliuiu Automobilo Association, was present j by invitation, and gave a brief address. Those present at the meeting decided to offer their services to tho Government as a motor-cyclist corps, and they also decided to present a motor-cycle to th* Defence Department. : *
