GOVERNMENT'S EFFORTS.

LONDON PRESS BUREAU, r— [by telegraph—special correspondent.] Wellington, Tuesday. The Prime (Minister was asked to-day by the Hon. D. Buddo (Kaiapoi) whether, in view of the establishment of a Press War News Bureau in London, the Government would endeavour to obtain news of importance as soon as possible. Mr. Massey said that so far as he knew the object of the press bureau,in London was to supply news to the news agencies. He had endeavoured to make arrangements in another direction whereby news of the war could be supplied to the public as soon as possible. He could, not give any further information at present, but the Government was doing its best. Mr. T. M. Wilford (Hutt) expressed the (opinion that the High Commissioner in London was not in such a good position to obtain news, as the representatives of the Press Association.

The Postmaster-General, the Hon. R. H. Rhodes, said that it had been suggested that if the various High Commissioners acted together there would be a better opportunity of obtaining the news. He was not at liberty to send Press Association news to the country post offices when ij was received, because it. was protected by the He added that he had appealed to, the postmasters and postmistresses in charge of offices which closed at five o'clock to reopen for a 6hort time in the evening to receive war news.
