BANK EMPLOYEES.
QUESTION IN THE HOUSE.
ALLEGED REFUSAL OF LEAVE.
[ill TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.]
Wellington, Tuesday. In a question put in the House of Representatives this afternoon the Hon. D. Buddo asked the Prime Minister whether ho had heard a report to the effect that one of the banks had refused to give leave of absence to members of its staff who were taking up military duties. Several members (excitedly): Which bank ? Name! Name!
Mr. Buddo: I will not give the name just now. Mr. Massey: It is not the Bank of New Zealand.
The' Minister for Finance, the Hon. James Allen, said that the Government, had heard the rumour and was now inquiring into its correctness or otherwise. As the report might not be correct it would be unfair to give the name' of the bank.
Mr. Buddo: I .am prepared to give the name of the bank to the Prime Minister. Mr. Massey: I can only repeat what the Minister for Finance has said, that inquiries are being made into the matter, but it is only fair ( to say that the, bank in question is not the Bank of New Zealand. "*
